Who Are We...
All you need to know
Since 2010 Oliver Edgecombe had worked with a number of labels in his career as DJ/producer ‘Cottonmouth’. The moniker stemming from his heady days as a skater and general slacker. He had secured multiple international and national radio plays with BBC R1, BBCR1xtra, Asian Network, Brooklyn Radio, Rinse FM and a host of other stations and blogs which included Data Transmission, UK Music Review and IDJ Magazine. Whilst not wanting to admit it at the time, one of the driving forces for Cottonmouth, as well his own tenacity, was the support from Ben at Bermuda based Permanent Damage Records (PDR).
Whilst Olly enjoyed making music, he is also a natural communicator and networker so after Ben had released some Cottonmouth tunes and helped book a Canadian, US and Australian Tour through his label PDR, the logical next step for Olly seemed to be setting up his own label. So after a year of working and travelling in Australia and Tasmania, Olly returned home and started Pegdoll.
In 2014 Ben started getting regular phone calls and messages about label related issues from Olly. He was so free flowing with information and advice that Olly asked him to join him in creating Pegdoll.
Ben had worked at Bermuda’s, Permanent Damage Records in the 2000’s. His learning was bolstered by his management of the partial back catalogue of the cult Climax Blues Band whose career has spanned 50 years, following the death of his father who was in the band. A headlong submersion into the not so pleasant side of the music industry followed, which was not ultimately by choice but allowed him to see the experience from both artist and label. The combination of the old school contracts, managing his mum’s pension (his dad’s back catalogue), alongside his PDR experience he learnt the ways of the music industry. He embraced the changing models for releasing music, whilst crucially understanding the needs of artists and the importance that the music comes first.
Fast forward to 2018 and Pegdoll are now about to achieve their 40th release. There have been challenges along the way but the steep learning curve and desire to release new, interesting and exciting music remains. Both having a vested interest in the artist from two different experiences, Ben and Olly continue to spend most of their time moving forward with Pegdoll.
Bonded by music, an unflattering age gap, mutual admiration for the unusual and weird, with 4 kids between them (not together) Pegdoll continues to grow and develop.
